On every day of the show from 30 September to 2 October 2008, SGS will inform experts about current developments, the consequences of legislation and new challenges facing the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

On Tuesday, 30 September 2008, between 3:00 and 3.30 p.m., the focus will be on challenges in packaging materials. During the life of a medication there must be an assurance that the packaging does not lower product effectiveness or even have injurious consequences for consumers. In particular, the talk will cover the quality control of substances which can be endangered by leaching or extraction.
The regulations and the obligations to submit evidence documenting the effectiveness, quality and, most importantly, the safety of medications from the raw materials to the finished medication are multiplying rapidly. So it is all the more important to fully guarantee quality throughout the whole manufacturing process. The talk on 1 October at 3:00 p.m. will provide a broad overview of options in line with good manufacturing practices (GMP) for manufacturers and traders.
On the last day of the show, at 2:00 p.m., the subject will be the harmonization efforts of America, Europe and Japan in relation to the new maximum permissible microbial counts. Even if the successive harmonization does not go into force until next year, preparations require a great deal of time. The talk offers help in recognizing in advance the weak links in one's own operation and the requirements associated with implementation.
